Australian Helicopters Fields Safe Flight Powerline Detection System on the Agusta AW-139

White Plains, NY (February 27, 2015) — Safe Flight Instrument Corporation of White Plains, NY announced that Australian Helicopters will operate Safe Flight’s Powerline Detection System (PDS) in six Agusta AW-139 aircraft as part of the Ambulance Victoria Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) contract awarded in 2014.

Safe Flight’s PDS is European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified under Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) and operates worldwide to detect 50Hz/60Hz power line frequency emissions.  The PDS is an extremely lightweight (less than 2.0 lbs. installed) passive system that alerts the pilot when approaching an energized power line.  The system provides both a visual and aural warning to the crew.  As the aircraft approaches the hazard, the aural tone intensifies, cautioning the pilot.

Australian Helicopters provides mission-critical helicopter support for a range of services, including: Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Search and Rescue (SAR), surveillance operations, law enforcement, aerial work and Marine Pilot Transfer (MPT).  Helicopter support services are provided for Federal and State Governments and both public and private sector companies with a fleet of 20 multi-engine and single-engine turbine helicopters.
