Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Full Job Description

Safe Flight has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer whose responsibilities will include design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, and product/process improvement of aircraft safety and performance devices. The successful candidate will gain a unique hands-on design opportunity facilitated by Safe Flight’s on-site manufacturing and Engineering laboratory while collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of Engineering and Production personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Use 3D CAD software to design and develop mechanical drawings
  • Construct and evaluate engineering prototypes
  • Complete the design process by generating production drawings and associated documentation
  • Conduct engineering analyses
  • Design and perform various qualification testing
  • Interface with multi-disciplinary teams, both internal and external (customers, suppliers, etc.)
  • Develop project schedules and cost estimates based on design requirements
  • Optimize product materials and manufacturing processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
  • 7+ years’ experience in mechanical design, or 5+ years with an applicable Master’s degree
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor
  • Ability to characterize forces, stresses, and kinematics of mechanical systems
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics and heat transfer principles
  • US Citizen or US Person authorized to work on aviation and military programs

Preferred Assets

  • Experience with applying GD&T to mechanical drawings
  • Exposure to designing for additive manufacturing (3D printing)

Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Full Job Description

Designs board-level electronic circuits in small multidisciplinary teams to create safety critical aviation products.

Responsibilities

  • Design electronic circuits for aviation computers and supporting systems such as test equipment and harnesses
  • Create Statements of Work for contracted services such as board layout and manage the contractor throughout the project
  • Evaluate design choices to meet product functional requirements, environmental compatibility, and manufacturing lifecycle, creating reports and other documentation supporting design choices
  • Create test procedures and reports for electronic hardware
  • Provide engineering insight to Program Management and Sales and Marketing for new business proposals and customer support
  • Supporting manufacturing and repair departments for legacy products
  • Utilize standard electrical laboratory equipment to verify, debug, and rework electronic circuits

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5 years+ experience with comparable responsibilities
  • Digital design in the hundreds of MHz with ARM Cortex or similar complexity microcontrollers
  • Basic analog computer design
  • Experience with design for Electro-Magnetic Compatibility for susceptibility and emissions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited school
  • US Citizen or US Person authorized to work on aviation and military programs

Experience in the following topics is desirable but not required:

  • Schematic Capture and PCB layout with Altium Designer
  • Designing safety critical electrical systems
  • Designing to RTCA DO-160G, MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-704F, MIL-STD-461G, and similar qualification standards

Accounts Payable Administrator Job Description

Safe Flight Instrument, LLC seeks a professional, highly motivated, and analytical thinking candidate that will be responsible for all vendor invoice and payment processing, treasury activity, administration of all purchase orders along with other accounting and financial reporting responsibilities to assist the department.  The Administrator will be working for an aerospace manufacturer based in White Plains and will report to the Controller. 

Accounts Payable Responsibilities:

  • Receipt and entering vendor invoices in the ERP system
  • Process invoices for payment
  • Match vendor invoices to purchase orders and receivers and resolve any differences
  • Make weekly check/ACH payment runs
  • Accrue for recurring expenses not yet invoiced
  • Run month-end account payable reports
  • Reconcile accounts payable sub-ledger to the general ledger

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide back-up to general accounting, payroll and accounts receivable
  • Prepare and handle general ledger journal entries, as needed
  • Documentation of policies and procedures
  • Assists with external audits

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with diligence and attention to detail. Experience in accounts payable is expected.  Knowledge of ERP accounting systems, especially Epicor Software, is a plus. Ability to clearly communicate with others is necessary.

Strong computer skills Excel/Word/Power Point are essential.

Assembler – Electronic/Electro-Mechanical

Must be capable of but not limited to:  Excellent soldering skills and fine eye/hand coordination when using small hand tools such as soldering iron, wire strippers, crimpers, etc.; Performs mechanical assembly measuring tools; Perform troubleshooting tasks as required; Visually inspects products or parts to ensure that the product meets the quality specifications.  Must be able to follow operation steps and engineering drawings in completion of the assembly tasks.

Aviation Technical Editor

Responsibilities: Proofread technical documents generated by the engineering team for spelling, grammar, and punctuation; Rewrite text with authoring engineers to improve clarity and readability while maintaining industry standard vernacular; Assist with coordinating the signoff and release of documents to the FAA-approved document management system; Improve existing style guides, create document templates, and develop on-boarding materials to improve the productivity of all staff writing technical document; Identify opportunities to take advantage of automation to improve efficiency of the document creation and review process. 

Skills and Qualification:  Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, applied science, mathematics, engineering or related field; Detail oriented writing and editing skills with experience as a technical writer or editor; Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word including features such as defining styles and managing complex templates; Familiarity in other tools for creating digital documents such as LaTeX and automated document linting is preferred; Interest in aviation and aviation technology is recommended.

Engineering Lab Electronics Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Build test sets and cable assemblies from schematics and assembly drawings utilizing through hole and SMT technology
  • Assist engineering in construction and rework of electromechanical prototypes
  • Perform routine calibration of electronic instruments and coordinate outside calibration for equipment that cannot be calibrated in-house
  • Work with engineering to troubleshoot equipment

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in electronics, avionics, or a related field with a basic understanding of electronic circuit theory
  • Comfortable reading and editing schematics and drawings
  • Proficient using computers with a strong drive to learn new tools to work effectively with engineering
  • Experience as an electronics technician in an ISO or AS9100 facility is preferred

Electronics Technician

Associates degree in Avionics or related field; or a minimum of 3+ years’ experience as an electronics test technician for digital and analog circuits.  Must have a working knowledge of electronic circuit theory and the ability to troubleshoot using schematics.  Must be computer literate, possess good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English. Experience in an ISO or AS9100 certified manufacturing facility; and with surface mount assembly a plus.

Software Engineer

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 1+ years of embedded software experience in C/C++, ARM and Intel microprocessors, communications (UART, I2C, SPI, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553 Bus).  Hardware knowledge is a plus.  Experience in DO-178B/C including verification is highly desirable.  Debugging skill using emulator is required.  Some windows programming knowledge is preferred.
